$29,000 Raised for Earth Month

In our 10th Year of raising money for Earth Month, The Aveda Institute Portland and Dosha Salon Spa, blew our goal out of the water by raising a grand total of $29,000 for Hopkins Demonstration Forest! We could not be more thrilled or proud of the efforts of our students and staff! With our biggest success to date, we wanted to take a moment and highlight some of the standout moments of the year!

Field Day: Hands in the Dirt

Our Field Day is our newest event and this one starts before the month of April. We kick of the coming month in February by venturing and yes literally bussing our city student to Beaver Creek OR. to the Hopkins Demonstration Forest. This is where all the magic happens. The day is hosted by our sister company Dosha Salon Spa, who donates $5 for every one that comes out to learn and explore. Our students and staff who come out to this event learn the real reason behind the month of fundraising. Sure it is for the earth and for our mission but it is also for these wonderful people who work at Hopkins to educate, maintain and inspire the community! Nothing will leave you more excited to get fundraising then this day of forestry play! This year Dosha generously donated a big $5,000 for all who came, providing a great starting place to reach our goal of $25,000.

Class Fundraisers: One Wing-A-Thon to Rule Them All

Have we mentioned how in awe we are of our student talent?! Seriously, you cant beat the level of creativity these people bring to the table. Our Class fundraisers started off as little bake sales organized by the instructors. However as the years went by students started taking things into their own hands, suggesting  a rang of creative ideas to make some serious cash. Fundraisers have included, Lemon-ade stands, singing telegrams, burrito bars, handmade coloring books, jewelry, and even the chance to pie your instructor in the face. This year we added edible chocolate succulents and our first ever wing-a-thon to the list. All these creative ideas landed us a juicy $3,500, with our Wing-a-thon raising $600 alone!

Cut-A-Thon: $500 Haircuts?!

Our cut-a-thon is quickly becoming one of our biggest events of the month, this year between both our Vancouver and Portland campuses we raised a whopping $6,000 dollars. A big thanks goes to of course our community who comes in the shed their locks for a good cause but also to our sister company Dosha Salon Spa, whose Master Stylist gave up their time and their income to come participate at the school! This year we were honored to watch Master Stylist Eric Howell give a $500 haircut!!No Small feat but if you have ever met Eric you know he is the one to make it happen!

Evening 4 Earth: Runway Show/Dance Party

Our annual evening event has morphed since its first go around in 2007, in fact our first event was an actual walk for water, but in our 10th year of celebrating we have found the perfect combo of fun and education in our evening 4 earth soiree. The event this year brought in over 8,000 alone, making it our biggest fundraiser of the month. The entire event is put by students, staff and volunteers from the community. Our DJs, bartenders and drink all happened thanks to generous souls who gave their time and resources to make this fabulous event happen. It is our AIP students and staff who pull the weight of this event, doing everything from hair and makeup to modeling and decor.

At the end we raised $29,000!! All fund go to The Hopkins Demonstration Forest. See more about this amazing, local forest here: http://demonstrationforest.org/
